Exchange with a friend:

F: PG is such a huge part of your life, is there life or an identity for you beyond PG?
Me: mumble mumble

After the exchange I did wonder if I really thought of anything other than PG (food doesn’t count) since I am back from the US – MBA & all. I think I am lucky. I have something on my mind all the time – its either dreams, worries or just the sheer happiness of managing something as beautiful as PG.

Like a baby that has grown healthier & is growing fast – I am realizing how fast I need to let go of things at PG to ensure its own growth. At last count there are 15 folks working at the HQ and the number will be doubling in the next couple of months.

Every waking moment, I think about what to do better at PG, who else to hire, how else to do things better, how to manage the resource crunch and yes .. the ever elusive question of ‘where is all this heading’.

I do wonder if I have a separate identity beyond PG, but honestly I am not sure I care. I consider myself lucky that I get to do the things I do, touch the lives I can, help build a beautiful workplace, help people make their educational choices, work with world class folks and continue to dream.

F: Do you like the way the world is?
Me: No
<brief pause>
Me: I have PG.

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.- Albert Einstein

Dear PaGaLGuY,

On behalf of the entire Wharton community, I wish to congratulate you on your admission to the Wharton MBA Class of 2008.

Your outstanding record of personal, professional and academic achievements has clearly distinguished you in an exceptional applicant pool. As a Wharton student, you will join a diverse, international community that will both challenge and support you in your efforts to learn more, do more, and be more. You are part of a select group of individuals invited to join our community during the 125th Anniversary of the school’s founding, an occasion that honors Wharton’s spirit of innovation and far-reaching influence in global business education.

The Wharton MBA opens a world of opportunities. We invite you to learn more about us by attending one or both of our admitted student events: Wharton Winter Welcome (February 8-10, 2006) and Wharton Welcome Weekend (April 6-8, 2006). Information about these events is posted on our admitted student portal (http://[snip]), where you will find a wealth of information about the program, including our “e-talk” discussion board (access code:[snip]), where you can meet your future classmates and get your questions answered by members of the Wharton community.

An Admit Pack will arrive shortly with detailed information on financial aid, matriculation requirements, and other materials you will need to begin the next part of your journey. Please note that a $1,000 non-refundable enrollment deposit must be received in the Admissions Office by 5pm, Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Thursday, April 27, 2006 in order to secure your place in the Class of 2008.

If you have any questions or need additional information after receiving your acceptance packet, please do not hesitate to call the Admissions Office at 01 (215) 898-6183.

With best regards,

Since I have nothing interesting to add here in this blog anyway, let me play a game of tag. I was tagged by puneet – http://sdfn.blogspot.com/ . Now I gotta ramble about 20 random things about myself. So here you go

1) Started driving cars at the age of 6 .. used to sit on my fathers lap and drive em .. at 7 I could drive alone
2) Biking started at 9 – learnt it all alone by hijacking my fathers bike when he wasn’t home. Yes, my feet wouldn’t reach the ground and I would have to balance until I reached any ledge where I could balance one of my foot to stop the bike
3) Was forced to sign a statement at school stating that I would leave school if I created any more nuisance than I already did
4) Extremely clumsy and have to dash into every piece of furniture in the house even if all I do is get up and sit down in the same place.
5) If I get addicted to an idea/possibility, I can’t sleep. Have not slept many a nights due to this
6) Ex voracious reader right thru college. Went through approx 2K books and exhausted my local library before 12th grade. Now haven’t read a book in a couple of years
7) Played cricket for my school – stopped watching matches ages ago
Wanted to play the drums – someday I will. Once I have a big office and stuff.. I intend to take classes at work after the employees leave
9) Been a computer freak since childhood. The first computer bought was a Sinclair Z-80
10) Always been a stickler for privacy. I respect others’ privacy and expect the same and luckily i’ve found that the best of my friends think the same
11) The first time I earned money was when I and my friend bet Rs.1o on a cricket match we and the neighbourhood kids played. We won.
12) Had only 1 friend through college.
13) The worst thing about running pagalguy.com is dealing with business school students
14) Never been to a pub, never had a sip of beer, never smoked a cigarette. I guess I have bigger addictions and life is one of them
15) Failure doesn’t mean squat and is just success delayed. My astute belief.
16) I want the time to write and inspire. Someone out there might find something useful from my life experimentations.
17) Fav. dessert is the caramel pudding my mom makes. NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING I’ve eaten across half a dozen countries comes close.
18) My fav line to my mom – “Mera kya hoga” for which I get the response ” Tera kuch bhi nahi hoga”
19) Games. PC Games. Will play em now..and will build entire gaming rooms sometime later in life
20) For 1.5 years, I didn’t tell my parents I founded and ran pagalguy.com . Now they can’t gush enough [grin]

And no, I aint tagging no one. People deserve peace ~

Everytime I talk to a bschooler.. I get a feeling I am talking to an automated voice mailbox. There are a few words and sentences that they can never stop using. But I think this happens the most if the conversation turns to ‘business’. I value opinions, however unacceptable they may be to me, I still value em. Since I am not from a business school, my mind does tend to wander and think .. ‘hey, wait, what would a bschool’d dude/dudette say’ about a certain business problem, strategy..blah blah.

Almost all gems of responses will have the following words in it.

1) Global
2) Comparitive advantage
3) Historically
4) Niche
5) Competitive
6) and ofcourse the word, strategic.

Invariably these words will start repeating in evey sentence….after I probe a little, entire sentences will have sentences containing only the above 6 words or so. I guess, all our bschool junta are extremely well set for a career in consulting . Talk talk talk.. who cares if ya make sense or not. Any more contributions to the above words, folks?
